Carson, Welper Join Genex Dairy Genetics Division
SHAWANO, Wis. - Genex Cooperative, Inc. announces the hiring of Scott Carson as Dairy Procurement Specialist and Morgan Welper as Progeny Support Specialist, both within the Dairy Genetics Division.
As a Dairy Procurement Specialist, Carson's primary responsibilities include coordination of Jersey and colored breeds sire procurement. He will also transition into acquisition of Holstein bulls and embryos in eastern New York, New England, Oregon and Washington.
Carson is a graduate of Virginia Tech. He also studied at North Carolina State University with Dr. Ben McDaniel where he participated in research activities that led to the implementation of genetic evaluations for Rear Legs-Rear View.
Following college, Carson remained involved in the dairy industry. From 1991 to 2008, he and his wife Kristen owned and operated Celestial Jerseys in New Lebanon, N.Y. During this time he earned several accolades including the 1997 National Outstanding Young Jersey Breeder award and the 1999 William M. Etgen Virginia Tech Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. Carson also served in several industry leadership roles including co-chairman of the 1995 National Jersey Heifer sale and director for New England Jersey Sires, Inc.
As the Progeny Support Specialist based out of Ithaca, N.Y., Welper is responsible for organizing the picturing of daughters of dairy sires in the QuantumTM sampling program. She will also assist in the identification and evaluation of Quantum sampling herds throughout the eastern United States.
Welper is a December 2008 graduate of Iowa State University (ISU) with a bachelor's degree in dairy science. While at ISU, Morgan spent time abroad studying dairy farming and reproduction in New Zealand, and she was a member of the ISU dairy cattle judging team.
Prior to accepting her permanent position with Genex, Welper served as a spring 2008 intern with the cooperative's GENESIS MOET (Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer) program. During summer 2008, she provided complete reproductive service to producers in northeast Iowa as a marketing intern.
