Sire Conception Rate (SCR)

Sire Conception Rate (SCR), developed by the USDA AIPL, shows sire fertility results based on confirmed pregnancies. SCR data comes from herds representing the majority of the United States.

Evaluations are expressed as deviations from the overall average. The average bull has an SCR of 0.0 with other bulls ranging both above and below that standard. For example, a bull with an SCR of +4.6 can expect to have a 4.6 percent higher conception rate then the average bull. A bull with a -4.6 SCR would have an estimated 4.6 percent lower conception rate than a bull that is 0.

All six traditional U.S. dairy breeds are evaluated for sire fertility provided sufficient data are available. To be publishable, a bull must have an artificial insemination (A.I.) status other than inactive and cannot be more than 13 years old. Holstein bulls must have at least 300 total breedings, 100 breedings in the most recent 12 months, and at least 10 herds.
